Next Meeting of the New England Network

The next Technical Meeting of the New England Network will be held at 6:30pm on Thursday, 24 May 2012 at the MIT Media Labs, Cambridge MA (town just outside Boston MA).  Our speaker will be Dr Edward S Boyden of MIT Media Labs and the title of the talk is Optogentics, In Vivo Robotics and other tools for brain understanding.   This is a joint IET and IEEE event.  Introductory remarks will be given by Nigel Fine, IET Chief Executive and Secretary.  Following the meeting there will be a social gathering and dinner (optional) at the Cambridge Brewing Company.  More information and directions are in the Event Flyer that can be found on the events page.

History of the New England Network

Following some informal meetings of interested members, our Petition to form the "IEE New England Centre" was filed with the President and the Council on 13 August 1997. The Petition was approved by the Board of Trustees and by Council in January 1998. Shortly after that we were renamed as the New England Branch.

In 2005 when the IEE and IIE merged, we became the IET New England Network with responsibility to provide local services to all members of the new Institution.

Events

Attending local events can lead to valuable networking opportunities. The New England Network regularly runs events in the greater Boston region and in New York City. Members are encouraged to bring guests.

Special seminar rates

In addition to the technical events hosted by the IET, meetings, conferences, and seminars provided by the IET's sister Society, the IEEE, are available to IET members at the IEEE member rates. Check with your local IEEE Section or with local contacts within IEEE's Region 1.

Recent events

Our most recent meetings have been held in either the greater Boston region or in New York City so as to accommodate our members, the majority of which live within commuting distance of one of these two centres.

Where we live
